Oh What a Joy It Is...

Brian and I took the kids out to see a house that had their lights choreographed to music. As we turned onto the street, Alexis said that she had to throw up. I asked her if she really did and she said no. Not a moment later she had done what exactly she said she had to do. Brian was grossed out from watching her in the rear view mirror. He pulled the car over so I could see the damage and to take care of Alexis. When we got out Brian started to gag from the smell. I started laughing because he was having such difficulty helping. Then Brian threw up a little and I laughed harder and ended up losing control of my bladder just a little. Poor Alexis was sitting in the back of the van covered, Brian was on the curb unable to help himself and I was standing there laughing in the freezing cold wetting myself. (I am okay with myself to share that).

The situation was too funny not to share.

We went to the house and watched the lights for a little and then we drove home with the windows down because we could not stand the smell anymore. Anyways, all is well. Parenthood is great!

Christmas Eve lava flowing into ocean

We spent Christmas Eve in Volcanoes National Park and watching lava flow into the ocean just out of the park. It was a bit unconventional but we hope you all enjoy our version of Christmas lights.

Mikey laughing (among other things)

Leah was bouncing Mikey on her knee and he was laughing, so I grabbed the camera.

A Long Day

Today we went to Stake Conference in Vicksburg. It isn't that long of a drive. However, after missing a morning nap and being in new surroundings for two hours with constant stimulation it is long enough to take a nice snoozer. I was sitting in the back seat because we were taking an newly ordained Elder home and I couldn't help myself. They were too cute. I love to look at my babies while they are sleeping.

Precious Moments

Here is Alexis playing with Mikey. They are so cute. We do have precious moments amongst the chaos.

Sweet Potato Enchiladas

Last Sunday both Brian and I were prompted to invite a family over for dinner. After the invite, we found that one of the family members is a vegetarian. So I set out to find a recipe for our family to try since almost all of my meals include meat. I found this recipe for Sweet Potato Enchiladas. It sounded a little different but we are always up to try something new. Come to find out these are really good. We made two pans. One pan with red enchilada sauce and one with green enchilada sauce. In the future we will only make them with the green sauce. We served them with Spanish Rice and black beans. It was so good. I forgot to take a picture of them. Oh well. After dinner we played Star Wars Epic Duels (always a hit).

Anyways, good company and good food. A great night had by all.

Yum Yum Brownie Muffins

I have been trying to eat better but still enjoy the flavors. I got this recipe from my daily Hungry Girl email. It has only two ingredients: pumpkin and chocolate cake mix. It is so easy to make and doesn't taste that bad.

1 box devil’s food cake mix
1 can solid pack pumpkin (15 oz.)

Directions:
Mix the two ingredients together. Don't add anything else that may be mentioned on the box, such as eggs, oil, or water. The mixture will be very thick and you will be tempted to add in other things to make the batter smoother. DO NOT DO THIS AS IT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING! Place batter into muffin tins (or mini muffin tins) lined with paper, or sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Makes 12 regular or 36 mini muffins.

We finally got some updated slideshows up on here. We're only one month behind now. Hope you all enjoy.

Trip to the UP

Monday the new Saturday

I am so tired from the weekend that I have declared that Monday will be my do nothing day. I just want to spend the whole day in my jammies. Isn’t that what you are supposed to do on Saturdays? Well, to a certain point in the day and then you have to get ready. Maybe in time for dinner and Family Home Evening…

Happy Halloween 2009

The kids had fun dressing up for Halloween. Ellie's costumes include a palm tree with a monkey on it, a fairy alligator, and a fairy. Mom just likes to dress her up, and Ellie seems to like it too. She's just so cute! Mikey just had a cool hat from Grandma Lolly and Lexi was a Disney princess. Mom and Dad were too tired to dress up after ripping up the dining room carpet and scrubbing the hard wood floors on Friday.

Hungry Girl's Chinese Salad

Today I made this salad and it was so good.

Hungry Girl's 200 Under 200
Scoopable Chinese Chicken Salad

Ingredients

One 16-ounce package of dry broccoli slaw mix
12 ounces cooked skinless lean chicken breast, chopped
1 cup canned water chestnuts, drained and sliced into thin strips
1 cup canned mandarin orange segments, drained and chopped
1 cup chopped scallions
3/4 cup Newman's Own Lighten Up! Low Fat Sesame Ginger Dressing (Soooo Goood!)

Directions

In a large bowl, toss all of the ingredients together and mix well.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Stir well before serving. Enjoy!

I didn't wait to refrigerate and it was just as good. Brian liked it as well. I am not so sure about Alexis because she isn't feeling well. I checked out this cookbook from the library. There were too many recipes that I wanted to try so I bought a copy.

Mikey at one month

It has been a crazy month. Lots of adjusting and such. It is amazing how much Michael has grown. The best way to show it is with these two pictures. The first was taken the day he came home from the hospital and the next at one month.

Baby Update #4

We thought we would have had the baby by now, however we are mistaken. This last Friday we went into the hospital thinking we were in labor and were sent home. On Sunday we went in the hospital thinking once again we were in labor and we were sent home again. I was supposed to see the doctor yesterday morning, but my appointment was rescheduled for today because another lucky lady had her baby. So after seeing my doctor today and no real changes in my body, we will be going to the hospital tomorrow morning to be induced. The doctor assures me the baby will be born before midnight tomorrow. So stay tuned and we will keep you updated on the happenings.

Slideshow from our SF trip in May

April May 2009 Slide Show (The other one wasn't working properly so I'm reposting this slideshow)

Baby Update #3

So I went to the doctor's yesterday and not much of a change. The baby's head is down, I am a fingertip, and 60% thinned out. So we scheduled an induction for next Wednesday at 7:30am. I am so excited to know that there will be an end to my pregnancy. I am beside myself. Of course I wouldn't mind if he came sooner but I know there will be an end. Wahoo!!!

Alexis has been telling my belly "come out baby brother" She just started that on her own. I think it is pretty funny.

Ellie has two teeth on the bottom and one on top that is working its way through. She is also signing "please", "milk", and "more". She prefers to sign "please". It gets her what she wants faster. She also learned how to drink out of a straw on Saturday and her dad thinks that that is the coolest thing ever.

Baby Update #2

We saw the doctor this morning and everything is pretty much the same as last week except for one more pound. Hopefully it is just the baby. His heart rate was around 150 something. I wouldn't mind if he came sooner than later, but I know he will come when he comes.

I am excited to get together with friends and family this Friday for a baby shower. We are going to tie baby quilts for a local charity. I just felt we should do something different and I have been blessed so greatly in my life. This is the least we could do.

For most of the pregnancy the weather has been wonderful and not too humid. However, this week has been like what a Michigan summer should be. All I want to do is lay in front of the fan and keep cool.

This morning I woke up around 3:30am and couldn't sleep because all I could think about were the dirty dishes in the sink, the unwashed unfolded clothes, and the messy basement. So I got up and took care of things. Then went back to sleep. I hope it doesn't happen again.

Baby Update

We went to the doctor on Monday after attending the 1p36 Conference in Indianapolis. I am half way thinned out and closed. The baby's head is dropped as far as will be until delivery and he is head down. So we expect no baby this week.

Because of that Brian has left for California to work on his research paper with Ted. Which I thought was fine until tonight when I started having regular contractions. They have calmed down some so I don't think anything will happen. I also just realized that there is a full moon tonight which might mean something or not.

So hopefully no baby until Sunday at least. We'll keep you updated.
